ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The human being develops himself in different psychological or mental states and is structured, lives, and makes decisions according to this development. The process of handling this mental state, or conscience, is one of the key aspects on defining an individuals behaviour aswell as his interaction in society. Based on this concept, the series of paintings "Conscience" seeks to explore graphically and symbolically the different states of consciousness using the figure of a balloon as a representative of conscience regarding a specifical aspect of reality and the man - balloon interaction as an identifier of the current state and the way his conscience is handled . This set of works tries to follow a common visual structure where a localized action is shown representing an interaction between hands and the balloon. The technical style, rough, aims to show the raw, inner relationship that exists between the physical and the mental, using a chromatic choice according to their origin and placing them on a mix of pattern and neutral backgrounds.

Born in Matosinhos, i currently live and work in Leça da Palmeira. Graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Porto, I'm an Art Teacher at a Painting Studio in Leça da Palmeira. My artistic work is divided into two blocks with different languages: Sculpture, my area of formation, emerges through experimentalism based on conceptual structures inspired by the Human Being while being individual, social and psychological. The use of glass as a privileged material in the construction of sculptures is assumed as an element characteristic of his work. Painting, which appears as a kind of formal antithesis to my sculpture creatinina, presents a raw realism based on the visible interaction between man and society and the antagonisms created by it. The search for a figurative representation inserted in storytelling environments using metaphorical graphic elements forces an extra work analysis and a careful conceptual interpretation.
