Paul Beaudoin is a visual artist, composer, and educator, born just outside of Miami, FL, and having lived for many years in Boston, Massachusetts. He holds a PhD in music theory and composition and has taught art and music for over four decades. His academic focus is on contemporary and post-Modern art, particularly the American Post WWII Abstract Expressionist movement. Paul’s artistic journey began with a formative critique during his MFA program, where he was told his "brush strokes go in every direction, so you couldn’t possibly be an artist.” This harsh comment silenced his creative expression for over 30 years. However, during a Fulbright Scholarship in Estonia in 2015, he experienced a reawakening of his visual creativity. His early works began with bold high-definition photography, which quickly evolved into mixed-media pieces, incorporating various materials into his photographs. Since relocating to Estonia, Paul has made up for lost time, producing work that defies convention. Whether through photography, video, or mixed media, his materials are chosen for their ability to enhance the emotional and expressive intent behind his work. Despite stepping away from formal training, his deep knowledge of contemporary art and Abstract Expressionism is evident in his creative practice. Paul’s work has been exhibited worldwide, including a solo exhibition, Who I Talk to When You Are Not Here, at the Vabaduse Gallery in Tallinn, Estonia. He has also participated in several group shows in cities such as São Paulo, Edinburgh, London, Tokyo, Berlin, Amsterdam, and across the USA. His artwork is held in private collections around the globe, and in addition to his visual art practice, Paul is a highly respected composer, public speaker, online educator, and published writer.
