This painting is in a series of work called 'Corpus'- meaning latin for body and a term for the mid panel of an altar piece. The still life studies in this series are painted in 'alla prima' or 'wet in wet' technique, finished in one shift with the aim of achieving a vibrant, fresh, spontaneous expression with bold brush marks and decision making. This fast way of working, often mixing the paint on the canvas also makes for interesting colour fields where bright bits of colour pop as you get closer to the work. These works are informed by my experience as a mother: the body gaining a utility in feeding my child. On one hand, they are a serious investigation of technical painting interests, on one a tongue in cheek image and at the same time a sincere celebration of woman- and motherhood. The piece is signed on the back.

I work with painting, sculpture and hybrids between the two. I'm interested in the tension between the surface/object and the perceptual space, what happens when observation is filtered through subjective translation and material limitations and how we can break through our fundamental solitude to feel connect with an other.
