This oil painting was inspired by Cotto's brutal fights with Margarito. I wanted to capture his spirit of perseverance by using dramatic brushworks and palette knife techniques creating a feeling of movement and rawness in this painting. Edwin Santiago

About the Artist

Edwin Santiago

United States

Bio
Edwin Santiago is of Puerto Rican descent and was born in 1974 in Middlesex County, NJ. His love for art started at an early age through drawing. Santiago's fascination with drawing progressed as he reached his teens and discovered his passion for comic book characters and the human anatomy. It wasn't until Santiago's early 30s, while majoring in Graphic Design, took a course in drawing/painting 1 and 2 that he discovered his true love. After graduating, he began his 1st series in pastels called "Portraits of Blue" and immediately sold the complete series to one buyer. While juggling his responsibilities of family life and work, Santiago found the time to teach himself how to use oil paint. He completed several oil paint series and appeared in several shows. Unfortunately, as life became more difficult, he had to put down his brush and make ends meet.

Six years passed and not a single drawing or painting was touched until a friend commissioned Santiago for a painting. His passion had been reignited, but it took him 8 months, several drawings and many oil studies to complete his masterpiece of "Jimi".

Today, Santiago decided to move forward on his true love and looks ahead to the endless possibilities our Heavenly Father has placed before him.
