My love affair with finches continues. This painting shows to curious Crimson Finches exploring a arrangement of vessels. The glass dome holds a chrysanthemum in which it will surely perish. I have a passion for beautiful fabrics and I always inspired by block printing , the background of this painting explores this type of mark making. The painting has a beautiful slightly muted green, terracotta and splashes of red in its colour palette.

Born in South Africa Sam moved to Australia to achieve her Bachelors Degree in Visual Communication at Griffith University in 2010. In Australia she met her husband and settled with her young family on Mount Tamborine in Queensland. After her fist solo exhibition was held at Undergreenwood Tree Gallery in 2020 she has gone one to be shown in galleries in the ACT and NSW and has created a purpose built studio. The work is mainly oil on canvas, her subject matter includes fresh cuts flowers, ceramics and other elements from the natural word. " I am not a traditional still life painter in that my composition is generated from memory and various references from images to three dimensional items and then some are quite simply imagined" Working without the constraints of reality Sam is able to generate a visual feast of colour and shapes that touch on social, environmental and biographical subjects. "At times the paintings discuss big issues, endangered birds, overdevelopment of land etc. and other times it might be my own thoughts, feelings and confessions arranged on a canvas in oil paint"
