Cycling to my studio across the bridges of Strasbourg I was struck by the stark contrasts of colours and pattern in the urban environment I pass through. Most of these visual experiences are ephemeral, I see them one day and they are gone the next. But that doesn't devalue them at all. They are precious, perfect, self-contained, like lines of poetry written by travellers in the night. These paintings are a response to those jewels of observation.
