Cup and Saucer Painting

Rick Secen is a Brooklyn-based artist who has been working primarily in oil painting since 2015. After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005, he moved to New York City to pursue sound editing for film. His current work is informed by his love of storytelling. In 2018, Rick held his first solo painting exhibition, titled "City Witness" which depicted life from New York's Lower East Side in character studies, riverscapes, and street scenes. In 2022 his second solo show titled "Guiding Lights" responds to the isolation of the covid pandemic with sensitivity through large format paintings which radiate light. Rick's compositions and painting methods embrace his fascination in the dual nature of life, which seems to speak in chaos and rhythm simultaneously. The large works are often saturated with a sense of light and atmosphere and a strong sense of story.
