Biographical Information 2019 Paul Saucier Paul Saucier was born on March 10, 1958 in Canada’s national capital, Ottawa. From a very early age Paul needed to explore, create, draw and paint. Throughout his primary and secondary education, Paul was involved in numerous activities that touched upon the creative process: from organizing art exhibits to creating sets for plays and dance recitals. As well, he participated in several art competitions, which garnered him a number of prizes. During his studies at the University of Ottawa’s Department of Fine Arts, he counted among his professors, artists Jacques Hurtubise, Kenneth Lochhead and Charles Gagnon, who influenced him greatly. Always in search of new techniques in painting and art, Paul dreamt of being able to create, to generate and to earn a living from his work. He decided to hold his first solo exhibit at the Rodrigue Lemay Gallery in Ottawa. This first exhibit led to several more, on a variety themes, in numerous art galleries in the region, as well as in other cities. In 1977, he graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Ottawa and was recommended by the department for a teaching position at a school in Gatineau. Through teaching he discovered a new dimension of art: a passion to engage young people in the self-discovery of their creative potential. Since then he has partaken in a variety of solo, collective and permanent exhibits at the provincial, national and international levels, including the Quebec Biennial II in Montreal, the Ontario Bicentenary in Toronto, Seoul’s Museum of Modern Arts in Korea and the Agora Gallery in New York (USA). Some of his paintings are part of private collections and hang in the Quebec general gouvernour residence, the Ottawa City Hall,, the Gatineau City Hall and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Paul has participated in the prestigious competition hosted by the Quebec government to integrate art with architecture, and his works have been displayed in public buildings in Gatineau and Montreal. Some of his paintings have also been selected to illustrate the cover of books, as well as articles, in particular Passages, Mosaïque, Toubillon, the Canadian Parliamentary Review and Cent Bougies et un fantôme. Always active in creation, he conceived theatre scenes for the ETM for five years since 2008 and the production was showed at the department of theatre of the University of Ottawa.
