ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Trying to capture the feelings of the French as well as those who love the amazing human feat of the Notre Dame and what it symbolizes. It represented a healing place for me. The first time I prayed in silence was in 1984. The structure felt dark, gloomy and gothic appeared as it it was coated with centuries of dust and human negligence. The last time I visited in 2016, it was beautifully restored to its glory and especially unforgettable having taken my daughter as she turned 16. To think that this symbol of hope for the human endeavors and one of the world's sanctuaries for the weary souls is being burnt down is deeply wounding experience for all regardless of one's religion or creed.

Gina Son is a Korean-American Cafe-Scene Painter based in Honolulu. A global nomad, she has lived, worked and experienced observing people and sampling the ambiance in cafes in Paris, Rome, London, Tokyo, Seoul and Santorini. Gina has always been artistically inclined since her childhood, winning awards in her early formative years (e.g. the National Artistic Gold Key award in high school). She has taken art throughout her education. Being romantic at heart, she is deeply influenced by the 19th C. Impressionism masters such as Renoir and Degas, Monet and their depictions of femeninity.
