This portrait shows the actor and comedian David Mitchell as the Bard William Shakespeare as he appeared in the tv comedy show The Upstart Crow. Mitchell is an excellent lookalike for the perceived view of Shakespeare as he is seen in the few extant images we have of the great Bard.

I live in Manchester in the UK I am influenced by L.S. Lowry and Arthur Delaney, Northern artists. I started out as a naive-pictorial artist, but as I have developed, I have become more pictorial, though my work still has some naive elements. I have done some nostalgia tram paintings, but now am concentrating on portraiture and figurative art. When I paint a portrait of someone, I am looking for an interesting facial expression, which demonstrates something of the subject's character and psychology, as well as what they look like.
