Dead Flowers Painting

I make my own gesso so that I can control what it does and how it reacts with the pigments. Here you can see I've caused it to curl and fracture revealing a sort of muscle red beneath and the flowers and branches forming the upper surface. It's a study in decay in one sense yet textually it is alive like shedding skin.
