My work begins with the notion of “expectation,” which I understand not as optimism toward the future, but as a perceptual impulse that grants form and presence to what does not yet exist. I describe this condition as “a gaze full of longing.” Since childhood, I have had a habit of discovering faces, bodies, and presences within blurred surfaces, shadows, and accidental traces, assigning them existence as though they were real. This experience became the foundation of my ongoing inquiry into why humans persist in searching for forms and creating meaning where there may be none. The figures within my work are never fixed entities. They emerge and dissolve repeatedly, appearing as bodily forms before dispersing into vegetal clusters or fading back into the background. Through these unstable states, I explore how perception continuously produces and loses forms of existence. I am particularly interested in Pareidolia and in the proliferating structures of climbing plants such as Kudzu, whose growth conceals and transforms existing forms into new presences. Through painting and mixed media, I construct topographies in which expectation, belief, attachment, and loss intertwine. The forms within these spaces resemble apparitions—temporarily sustained through gaze and longing, suspended between emergence and disappearance.
