About The Artwork
This painting was created during an intense 8 day workshop exploring concepts such as age, beauty, friendship, ethics and morals, while learning how to do wet-collodion photography in the magical environment that is my friend [and often collaborator] D. Shrimpton's studio full of hundreds of years old cameras and props. After many long conversations about beauty and age, I ended up painting a self-portrait as a young woman. Having near photographic memory allows me to tap into old visions of myself and others - a privilege I rarely enjoy as it demands peace. The technique is Transparent Oil Technique [painting thin semi-transparent layers with varnish in-between], inspired by the works of Caravaggio.
