Depths Painting

'Depths' is an underwater geometric style, abstract painting in acrylic medium, painted onto a deep edge stretched canvas. It has been created by the Award Winning Artist, Janet Gammans. This artwork has strong impact when viewed. Reeds, fish and shells on a dark background make the subject stand out in any situation. I used a cyan blue, white, green and gold palette to create strong shapes with great tonal depth. The gold creates a shimmer to the artwork giving it diversity and 'movement' creating an ethereal look. The sides of the canvas are painted in black to complement the color tones of this image. I am inspired by many things, water for me, gives me immense freedom of expression. I have spent time by the coast, studying, exploring, painting and drawing textural references close up, in the natural world. This textural piece of artwork evokes an emotional response to forms and atmosphere from aspects of the ocean. I have come to realize that it’s not ‘what you paint’ that is important, but ‘how you paint it’. So in my interpretation of painting a subject, I try to maintain the essence of what first inspired me to paint it. For me, what is fundamental in my paintings are light, strength of color, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. It would suit many home interiors where you wish to create a contemporary and modern design style. This vibrant painting will not go unnoticed!
