About The Artwork

I would like the image to be multi-layered and a bit raw. I want to show both the hope and the gloom. Therefore, there are many layers in the picture. There are pictures from my own childhood, diaries etc. And also football pictures from my youth. There is a lot of competition and categorizing in the western modern world. We are all nature and basically we are exactly as we should be right from birth. But many of us forget that along the way and think we have to prove everything possible to be allowed to be here. That is why there is a large black stiff flower/thistle in the upper left corner. It symbolizes the shame/anxiety, the thing inside that paralyzes us and tells us that we are not good enough just as we are. I work in many layers - collage underneath and painting on top. I use the computer to sketch the different layers. I hope its viewers will feel a little less lonely and uplifted. That they feel a kind of recognition on a non-linguistic level. It contains both the bright, hopeful, lively and all the flowers, but also the dark and the rigid. It is a bit raw and I like that it is not “pretty”. I think it gives me some kind of redemption to ignore all my own inner critics and just keep going despite all their talk!

Lisbeth Neigaard's visual world is a mixture of sensitivity and raw, streetwise confidence. The key word is fragments. Lisbeth Neigaard uses collage to express thoughts and feelings that often revolve around difficult situations. About lack of self-esteem, about the pressure of expectations and anxiety. She shines a light on the dark side of life. The emotional uncertainty found in the content of Lisbeth Neigaard's collages is thus contradicted, in terms of form, by a disciplined artistic self-confidence. The collages is formed from fragments of different images: pre-existing images such as newspapers, posters and photographs and some created by the artist herself through painting, drawing and writing.
