Marius D. Kettler (b.1961) is a painter, composer sound and video artist, who lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Many of his works are featured in international collections worldwide. He and has been painting since 1976, and has had 37 solo exhibitions, 60 group exhibitions in galleries, art fairs, festivals and project spaces. The series of paintings that are titled "The Color rooms" are abstract works, acrylic paint on canvas, utilizing day glow fluorescent color pigments.“The Color Rooms” began in 2009, these works are on canvas with diverse luminescent color schemes with fine integrated drawings. Kettler examines the contrasts and similarities of color that correlate and lead to color congruity, parallel to the non contrasts. The exploration of color, the creation of surfaces and structures with a glowing color impact and depth, resulting with an additional intense three dimensional quality. These vibrant works originate from surfaces, structures and patterns, creating an abstract perspective through the interaction of color and light. The first series was created with three distinct dayglow red tones—cyclamen red, brick red, and flame red—in conjunction with the color gold orange. The stratified paint and the transparency of each layer develop the color rooms. Each color has its own temperature depending on the reaction of light, the color white as a foundation that arises from underneath to the upper surface creating another level of light, where the white paint on the red surface deepens the dimensions of the color room. The type of light is the theme, be it cold daylight, sunlight, black light, or indoor lighting, makes an immense difference as to how the paintings glow. These paintings show their most luminous dayglow effect by true overcast daylight, not by direct sunlight or warm indoor lighting. This paint is self-produced with special pigments bonded into a certain consistency that punctuates the glow effect. The format of the canvas determines the motive structure of the painting. In many works, subtle drawings are incorporated before the painting is finished. The fine pencil drawing on the surface of the painting brings an additional dimension into the work. When focusing on the drawing, this can change the impression of the color and structure of the painting. "Light reveals the true soul of color" Kettler works thematically, for his sound installations and multi channel sound/music compositions.
