Our paths may take an indirect route to our destinations. They often intersect with choices, often overlap with alternate routes, and inevitably there will be detours. Don't let the odd detour ruin your focus. Get back on the road! The journey is the joy. I'm not talking about a journey to the mall or to some pub somewhere. I mean the journey of life. This piece was inspired by some music I was listening to that was written by Herb Ellis and sung by the great Billie Holiday. I find that my art is often influenced and inspired by the music I’m listening to at the time… or is the music I decide to listen to inspired by the art coming out of my head? Maybe both? I began my "outsider artist" journey painting on the backs of obsolete Habitat for Humanity signs. When I had gone through all could find I turned to other hand lettered, ad hoc plywood signs like the kind one might find advertising yard sales or in concert venue parking lots. I flip them over and use the open wood panel to create art, including this piece. My entire series of 2 foot x 2 foot verso homemade sign artwork are all on clean plywood and weigh ~3.5 lbs so they all will need to be hung in a frame.

After a 30 year career in advertising and sales leadership I escaped the corporate media world a few years ago and can now focus on creating my own work. In other words, I'm an outsider artist that has decades of ideas pouring out. My intent is primarily to create pieces of art that are highly visual and interesting to enjoy and study... but may often express ideas, ask questions, unearth feelings, debate opinions, or sometimes be provocative. Like many paintings though, they're often just a combination of lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space. That said; I hope my work presents a UNIQUE combination of art elements to you and that you like what you see. Better yet, I hope you believe some of my pieces should be included in your collection. I've traveled the world but have always lived in the Philadelphia area. While I have no formal training as an artist, I've been a photographer and I've been around the art community my whole life. My wife Suzanne works as a Docent for the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and together we've raised three wonderful sons that are all now making their own way in the world. We have a home and our studio in Chester County PA with our Bernese Mountain Dog; Mr Charlie.
