About The Artwork
This painting is of a real life event I photographed on a cross country drive from NY to LA. I was painting from photographs and choosing my subjects like this truck overturned that intrigued me. I am more interested in a subject that isn't clear, that teases, invites. I want the viewer to question how they arrived at this point in time when looking at the painting. The detour on my trip caused me to think of detours in life. I painted this in a manner that is fairly objective, a matter of fact approach for the most part. The upper portion of the canvas is bare because I didn't want to change the proportion of the photograph to fit the canvas, rather leave it alone as a kind of painting of a document.
