Art Description

Painting: Oil on Wood.

My oil painting depicts a young woman celebrating the Day of the Dead, the ancient Mexican holiday that honors deceased ancestors. Today the observance is not only celebrated in Mexico and across the Southwest of the U.S., it is observed all around the world. My painting was inspired by a woman I observed at one of the Day of the Dead festivals that occur in my home city of Los Angeles. It was exhibited at California's Bakersfield Museum of Art from Sept. 17 to Nov. 22, 2009, and is now in a private collection.
