İsmail Çoban was born in Çorum, Türkiye in 1945. Since 1971 he has lived in Wuppertal, Germany as a freelance painter and graphic artist. In 51 years, Ismail Çoban created an extensive and internationally acclaimed body of work, which he presented in over 700 exhibitions in 33 countries. His works include oil paintings on canvas, drawings, woodcuts, etchings and sculptures. In order to support international young artists whose work can contribute to mutual understanding between Germans and migrants, Çoban founded the Ismail Çoban Foundation for the Promotion of Young Artists in 2006.
