Double up Painting

My painting on glass evolved during the COVID lockdowns where interactions with the outside world was mediated by screens – phone and computer. Part of a series of some 30 works this painting explores colour and compositional elements of space. Inspired by virtual encounters my attention was drawn to the mirrored image of myself which led to experimentation with glass. For me it was a natural progression from computer painting and the process of reverse painting offered a great sense of freedom and excitement of exploring a new media. Double up was one of the first bigger works I completed that investigates abstract compositions, pattern, colour, mark making and spatial elements. I love the way the glass reflects the surroundings and the viewer. External elements that face the painting catch the light that projects on to the glass becoming part of the surface of the work; adding another dimension to the painting.
