This watercolor painting of Dr. Fauci, a leading expert on infectious diseases, precisely captures the expression of a stubborn and determined scientist. In January of 2020 Americans learned to trust Fauci's information and advice, just as his father, a pharmacist in Brooklyn, entrusted him many years ago with delivering prescriptions to patients in their neighborhood. When I first heard him speak as a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, I admired his blunt assessment of our dilemma with the pandemic, and noticed the direct unwavering way his eyes communicated with the American public from behind his wire-rimmed glasses. I think I painted just right his look and his eyeglasses.
