For millennia humans have looked up to the stars for answers to life’s big questions. Constellations became a potent source of legend and religious lore even in ancient times and sailors used them to guide their vessels while at sea. Even as humanity unravels more of the cosmos through modern technology, much of the mystery remains. Growing up in large metropolises, I rarely glimpsed the full splendor of the starry night sky. Yet, the mystery and promise beckoned. Anytime I found myself outside the city, I could not take my eyes off the night sky. The stars have always been mesmerizing, and I could lose myself in them completely. My Cosmos series is inspired by photos taken by the HUBBLE telescope, and the incredible explosions of color that it captures in faraway galaxies. This series is a meditative semi-abstract take on the incredible natural phenomena of the universe. The paintings are a subliminal map of my unconsciousness, represented in real and invented galaxy forms. The vastness and awesome beauty of the cosmos is a reminder to us all that we are just a spec in space and time, in the grand scheme of existence.
