About The Artwork

I came across this speedboat a few years ago. It is a 1960s model and was somewhat neglected. In this painting I wanted to give the boat a tougher and more elegant character in order to restore the boat to its former glory. I started painting the centre part during the spring of 2020. Corona was all over the news, and everyday a dashboard displaying the amount of infections was showed on the news. I wanted to stare at a different dashboard and dreaming about the perfect getaway vacation with nice boat trips and all. But somehow the painting wasn't finished with just having a dashboard painted. In my work I like to think about what it is to be a thing. I call it 'thinging': thinking about things. How do things get their names, and how do they get their meaning. Does a thing want to be its name? Or does a thing feel completely different from its name and its appearance? What do things dream about? Do they want to extend or to expand to claim a bigger aura? And that's why I started duplicating several parts from the original painting and adding on the canvas. As accentuating parts by cloning and duplicating them, to look better.
