About The Artwork
This work is from a series titled The Dictator in My Gene Pool, about Rafael Trujillo, who was the dictator in what is now the Dominican Republic, 1930-1952. I had been working on subject matter related to fascism, past and present, with a focus on Trump and other authoritarian leaders that I felt safely disconnected from, before realizing that a similar dictator existed in my own ancestry. In exploring this connection, I hope to show that all of us may have our own personal ties to fascism.
