Sometimes I feel the need to "drown" in a color, as in this painting where I used different shades and saturations of blue to create an enveloping, dynamic setting not different than waves on crashing rocks. The pencil lines anchor the shapes and have been a recurring leit motif in my work for years.

I am an abstract expressionist artist who has been making art for more than 40 years. I studied painting and design at Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, New York and I was in the New York art scene in the 80s, seeing first-hand all the artworks of contemporary masters in the museums and galleries. I moved to Milan in 1983. My art has gone through various stages of expression. I started out as a constructivist abstract geometric artist, but the birth of my son brought some changes in my iconography, which gradually found an expressionist voice. I have not published any of this early work in Saatchiart but it can be seen on my webside I love working on paper and I love the tactile quality of various textures of paper. My Cartoscultures may seem out of character with my expressionist production, but instead it is simply an expression of a parallel intuition and sensitivity inside of me. Weaving strips of paper is a meditative activity which I find incredibly satisfying emotionally. Iam interested in working in themes, or series, and usually produce variations of a central idea which I explore thoroughly. I produced a Dante's Inferno series, a Joy series influenced by the work of Pollock, at the moment I am working on an Entanglement theme, where the line represent our lives, the paths that we have taken or could have taken. The lighter pencil marks are choices we didn't make, the darker ink ones the decisions we made and marks we made on people and events.
