Every so often I’ll do a painting that is inverted - reminds me of the old process of doing photography in a darkroom. This is a portrait of the Thin White Duke who was the persona Bowie took in mid-70's, which he described were the darkest days of his life. Some music critics even thought of the character as a "cocaine fueled fascist who almost destroyed Bowie."
