Crowns are strange objects, and I am attracted to them for a variety of reasons. For a start they are technically difficult subjects to paint, so they are a challenge. Politically they represent a class system I disagree with but also a class that patronized and funded most of the art we see in our museums. Also I'm part magpie so naturally attracted to shiny objects.
