ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Eartha Kitt no.92a framed oil on wood This series of landscape based abstractions began after I had been plein air painting on my friends farm in upstate New York. I left the paintings I had made from life with my friends by way of thanks. Upon returning to the studio I painted from memory. The title is a double entendre referring to the lovely crooner and to the idea of using landscape as a template or point of departure for improvisational abstraction. There are worlds of experience beyond the world of the aggressive man, beyond history, and beyond science. The moods and qualities of nature and the revelations of great art are equally difficult to define; we can grasp them only in the depths of our perceptive spirit. Ansel Adams
