Eight cups a day - in memory of Kolontai by Yana Dimitrova Painting

This work was created after Alexandra Kolontai's feminist texts written in 1917, She had mentioned that sexuality should be looked at as a glass of water, that you drink and you go on with work you need to do. I use painting as a process of story telling, archiving fictional and factual narratives. This process is frequently formed through a deliberate engagement with people, both during the making and later through the work’s contextual activation. I devise a series of meticulous dialogues with community members and various audiences close to me, while creating paintings simultaneously or in response. I hope this work and process can build alliances across experiences, making links between stories; stories of love, sacrifice and oppression – all frequently associated with the migrant experience.
