About The Artwork

Michelle Yegros, a seasoned and prolific artist across many disciplines, from Illustration to CG Animation to Advertising Design, has recently put a welcome end to a 15-year hiatus in her classical painting. An impromptu trip to Spain managed to be an artistic reawakening. This piece, "El Último Mono de Atocha" is the most autobiographical of the series. A casual evening stroll through the streets of Madrid finds the artist entranced by a series of white monkeys with classic white telephones calling her from behind a glass window of a boutique hotel lobby. This piece establishes the theme for her next art show.

“Explosive brushstrokes and frenetic scribbles burst forth onto the wood. Oil pastels. Acrylic. These are grand scale portraits plucked from the commotion of red-raw emotion, intellectual reflection and the story that is born there. When there is darkness, I seek out the cracks. That’s where the narrator finds the light... as she paints. Inspired by the energy of the great Expressionists and Surrealists, this is intensely executed art that conflates the human figure and persistent motifs: silhouettes, eyes, animals and the mundane. Follow the white rabbit and see how deep the rabbit hole goes, as they say.” - MY. Michelle Yegros, a seasoned and prolific artist across many disciplines, from Illustration to CG Animation to Advertising Design, has recently put a welcome end to a 15-year hiatus in her classical painting. An impromptu trip to Spain managed to dislodge an artistic kidney stone and the rush for her paintbrush couldn’t have been quicker. The floodgates of creativity are now well and truly open. Welcome to the journey as it unfolds...
