Art Description

Painting: Oil on Paper.

This work was made in 2007 at the Glasgow School of Art life rooms. During my studies there I started questioning the use of the life model.

At the time the Painting Department would encourage students to adopt a more experimental approach to the human figure. We were advise not to spend time drawing the models in the life room. The school believed it to be too much of a conventional practice that was not allowing us to find new forms of expression.

I attended the life rooms less as I agreed on what it was being proposed. And each time I painted from a model in there I sought new ways of representing the body.
