ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In search of visual phenomena in nature like structures of agate stone, wood, grain, patterns of growth, Magda Lukas sets out to experiment with art techniques to imitate and magnify nature. Painting brings me peace and offers me a place to meditate on the beauty in the world & the grace I feel while living in it. My goal is to convey that same peace and grace to the viewer, offering a moment or pause & a feeling of deep belonging. The foundation of her current body of work lies in the arts of Suminagashi and Ebru, emanating from Japan and Turkey centuries ago are both evident in our inaugural collection. Magda Lukas (born in 1979) is an artist residing in Cork, Ireland. She is an emerging artist known for vibrant acrylic paintings that dance the line between real and abstract. As a photographer by trade, she has spent countless hours on her computer poring over photography. In 2015 she discovered that painting not only allows her to delve back into a more tactile world, but also allows her to create scenes in radical colors that no photo could capture. Her work is light and fresh and the compositions are a delicate balance of winding layers of colour. Magda’s technique responds to naturally occurring patterns.
