This is one of the largest works from my newest "Fumage" series. This abstract painting is made using raw canvas and a candle. This whispy mark-making creates a statically-charged and patterned composition. The fumage technique was first popularized by early Dadaists and Surrealists of the 20th century.

Mark Allen is an artist, photographer, and designer based in Venice Beach, California. His work is varied in sense of medium and theme, but remains consistently conceptual. He enjoys playing with audience perception of visual images and symbols, and is especially interested in the elements of water and fire. As a Leo Sun and Scorpio Moon, his work is loud but seeks to delve into the deeper mysteries of life. At the core of his artistic philosophy, Allen believes that all humans are divine creators, capable of constructing a peaceful and functional society. Born 1991, United States. Currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. History of group and solo exhibitions and performances in Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York City, London, Florence, Venice, and Buenos Aires.
