About The Artwork

This is an original painting of Enso circle, made with Chinese ink on Chinese rice paper. Calligraphy inscription is a Chinese proverb meaning "don't be afraid of moving slow, be afraid of standing still" (不怕慢, 只怕站 - bù pà màn, zhǐ pà zhàn). Enso circle comes from Zen Buddhism, it symbolises enlightenment, strength, elegance, universe and emptiness. It is also known as a circle of togetherness. Enso is drawn with one to two strokes, it requires freedom of the mind, so that the body creates the circle with a steady and uninhibited hand. The Chinese proverb serves as an inspiration to keep practicing until you reach your goals, no matter how slow your progress. I created this particular enso when an important and difficult part of my life has ended, giving me peace of mind. Hense, the title "Sense of Closure". The circle is closed, which is indeed interpreted as closure. The enso is wet-mounted on thickened rice paper. I mount rice paper artworks myself, using a traditional Japanese mounting technique. The painting is ready to be framed or mounted to a silk scroll. VERY IMPORTANT: Please use acid-free adhesives when framing.

Canadian artist based in Malta. I studied oil painting in the South Studio Atelier in Malta. The Atelier follows the great traditions of the Florence Academy of Art, so do I. The transience of life pushes me to create, to capture the moments of beauty I see all around. I also studied Asian art, in China, Canada, and in Japan. Fragile rice paper gives a different feeling. It's the best canvas to express the complex simplicity of ink painting. I am using centuries-old Japanese recipe to mount my own artwork.
