ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This portrait of a decaying leaf is a metaphor for entropy -- the tendency of all things to fall apart. The stars visible through the holes in the leaf are there to make the point that all matter is made of stardust and form will always return to its original state.

I was born and brought up in Boston, Massachusetts. I can't remember a time when I didn't have a pencil in my hand and a pad of paper to draw on. I've never imagined being anything but an artist, although there was a time after graduating college that i had to wait for my ideas to come of age. Although I'm a native of the East Coast, after working in Santa Barbara since 1976 and the California light, colors, and aesthetic has been the strongest influence on my work. I categorize my paintings as Contemporary California Realism.
