I create paintings as sanctuaries of nature, light and colour — places to slow down, breathe, and return to what feels true. My practice begins not only with walking in nature, but with sitting quietly within it — being wholly present, still, and open. Gardens, meadows, hedgerows, and shifting light are not subjects to be captured, but companions to be with. In these moments of attention and rest, something settles. Something opens. The paintings emerge from this state. They are not translations of an experience, but vessels through which it continues to flow — first through me in the act of painting, and then outward to others. Many people tell me that when they spend time with my work, they feel a softening: a quieting of the mind, a sense of peace, or a release from pain and tension. One woman once sat in front of my paintings for hours and told me it was the first time in twenty years she had felt no pain at all. Through rich, layered colour and luminous light, my work offers calm that is alive rather than muted — joyful, warming, and gently restorative. Even in winter, I often paint the colours of summer: meadows in bloom, light filtering through leaves, the fullness of life held in colour. These paintings are reminders of continuity and nourishment, especially when the outer world feels heavy or overwhelming. The act of painting is deeply meditative and essential to my own wellbeing. It has supported me through serious illness and remains a vital way I stay connected, grounded, and whole. Alongside the visual work, words often arise — titles and short texts that come from the same quiet, receptive state as the painting itself. Many people tell me these words speak directly to something they needed to hear, helping them shift perspective and return to themselves. At the heart of my practice is a belief in our innate connection to nature and its capacity to restore us. This connection — often described as biophilia — is something we recognise intuitively: a settling of the nervous system, a sense of coming home, a remembering of what it feels like to be well. My hope is that each painting becomes a gentle anchor in your space — a place you can return to again and again, to feel soothed, energised, and quietly held by the natural world.
