Havana, Cuba, 1982. Ifalola is a plastic artist, writer and priest of Ifá; the ancient Yoruba tradition named by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The Yoruba religion comprises the traditional religious and spiritual concepts and practices of the Yoruba people. Its homeland is in Southwestern Nigeria and the adjoining parts of Benin and Togo, a region that has come to be known as Yoruba Land. Yoruba religion is formed of diverse traditions and has influenced or given birth to a host of thriving ways of life such as Lucumí, Umbanda and Candomble. Ifalola’s work is a combination of oil painting, textures, and installations of key and very authentic elements that highlight the symbolisms on his work.
