Etoile de France, this pretty topsail schooner was built as a cargo ship for the Baltic Sea, in Denmark in 1938. The 40m long ship which needed restoration, had been docked in Saint-Nazaire (France) for several years, when it sank on October 29, 2023 during a storm.

Morocco and especially Marrakesh, where I have been living for a few years, are my first source of inspiration. Hence the series of "doors" where I try to make the colors, light and shadows, but also the beauty of weathered wood by time. I focused for this theme using acrylic inks on paper. This need to magnify the passing of time and simultaneously to freeze this time, to be a witness, is found in the series of "marine rusts", zooms on boat hulls, sheets, chains and anchors. To give to see the beauty of these aging things, to revive them, I often use a lot of materials (sand, marble powder, bitumen...). This results in figurative paintings, sometimes even hyper-realistic, with an approach to abstraction.
