This painting has been inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi or generally called Wabi-Sabi which means “embrace the imperfection”.
Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer. When Kintsugi is used to mend together broken pieces, the cracks are highlighted rather than hidden, to reveal the importance of fragility in life: when something has suffered damage and has a history, the process of “mending” and “putting pieces together” transform that thing into something more beautiful and unique.

FINDING MY WORD is a kintsugi art work.
It is about the struggle of defining ouselves.

The 34 golden leaves are mending together the two sides of the painting (Blu and white). Both sides are important if they learn to coexist together, both definition are contemplated if they can be mended into something precious and unique.
The red hole represents the process of discovery, it is the journey of the soul finding itself.

The real meaning of self definition is experienced exactly in the between space, in the moment where we start to question ourselves, to identify the presence of these two sides as a potential forces rather than a struggle.
It is understanding the preciousness of the departure, the distance we need to take to clarify our essence, by accepting the “searching” process, rather than stay stuck only in our own believes.

Hi! I am Silvia Gatti, italian architect living in Amsterdam since four years. I am an artist involved in different creative projects: from painting, to live performance and conceptual art design. My artworks are mainly abstract expressionist paintings on stretches canvas and recently on wood as well. I work with acrylic and oil paint while sometimes I am integrating them with gesso and varnish. I am experimenting the implementation of cloths and fabrics on the canvas and so to give to the painting volume and movements in a 3-dimensional shape. As an artist I am learning how to live the “NOW” without any expectations, to connect with my artworks transcending the self expression and embracing the pure essence of the discovery moment as a creative and expressionist force. From my travels and experience I have always been trying to integrate into my works the battles I have fought and the moments of joy and happiness I have lived. Silence is my favourite place where I feel confortable to connect with my dreams and emotions and where I can establish a creative relationship with them. Colours are my words and the shape of the movement of the brushes are expressed by the actions of my body. I like nature, travels, cats, flowers, cooking, yoga, books, incences, dancing, music and people’s stories. I am very much passionate in philosophy and I took part in some courses about antroposophy and human biography to discover connections with colours and human emotions.
