I was lucky for finding art and drawing very early in my life, and losing my heart in it. When the alphabet was no longer a mystery for me, writing also came naturally. This is why I always write to express myself before painting, and paint in order to avoid writing. As a pupil and a regular member at Baroque Gotteshaus, I learned the image of worship. Sacred history was embodied in the beautiful images of saints, and this view helped me to become a figurative artist. I have acquired my understanding of the real meaning of a picture in the sacred space of the Church. For this reason, the pure abstraction was probably alien to me for a long time. In 1974 I moved to (West) Berlin. There I studied at the Kunsthochschule, with Prof. Wolfgang Petrick, and at the same time finished my German studies at Freie Universität FU. When finishing the studies in Germany, in 1981, I returned to Switzerland. In 1996 I discovered the computer. This changed my view of the formal possibilities of art. Since then, I have been working on a synthesis of old masters painting and digital imaging technology. Michael Wyss
