About the Artist

Alan Daysh

United Kingdom

I'm a landscape artist from the Isle of Wight. Over the last 30 years I've painted small oil paintings of the island and other landscapes worldwide. I've decided with this new series to limit myself to oils on small canvas panels done only with a palette knife. The aim is to paint 100 oil sketches to represent the many different aspects of an area.
I suppose there are 2 main thoughts behind each sketch: Firstly to represent the feeling of space and distance from being in a landscape then, conversely, secondly, to concentrate on the surface of the painting itself. Allowing the palette knife to move freely and quickly so that the texture and colours evolve to create a 3 dimensional object. The aim is to create abstract paintings of the distance.
