About The Artwork

With “Fauna Farewell I have created an idealized tableau to express concern for beloved wildlife with hopes they do not become mere memories like the sadly extinct Dodo bird . I am creating narratives from photographic images that I have taken over 30 years. Utilizing more than 30 layers of my photographic images and then integrating them with acrylic paint and repurposed materials, I invite the viewer into a multicolored world punctuated with humor, sensitivity, depth of feeling, and skewed perspectives. It is photomontage and acrylic paint, ink and pencil on canvas mounted on a wood panel. The sides are covered with comingled acrylic paint, laundry lint and clear tar gel creating what appears to be a golden frame. Thus it would be unnecessary to frame Fauna Farewell as the edges are quite beautifully textured.

About Artist Jill Friedberg For nearly four decades following her education at Northwestern University and The School of the Art Institute Of Chicago, Jill Friedberg has established herself as a nationally recognized visual artist whose works have been exhibited extensively in museums, galleries and universities throughout the United States. A recent piece was accepted into The Archives of American Art of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D. C. Her work was selected for the Arizona Biennial 2018 and 2020 at The Tucson Museum of Art. In earlier years she was selected to be a member of ARC, an artist cooperative in Chicago which was founded during the women’s movement as an alternative to the mainstream galleries. It is one of the oldest co-ops of its kind in the country. As a lover of foreign cultures, she has journeyed throughout the world to photographically capture native memories with the intent of manipulating and integrating these images with paint and repurposed materials to create compelling narratives relating to global concerns.
