VIEW IN MY ROOM
Oil paint, graphite, spray paint. The graphite and spray paint is minimal. Figures waiting for the future, determined by someone else. There are small subtle graphite texts which read: - Une asteroid frolera la terre - Can you see it - We're waiting - (additional obscured text in oil) Commentary on news media as propaganda, unwillingness of people to do their own research. The first text is repeated from a 2013 paper work which I exhibited at Eyelevel Gallery in Halifax, that text quoted from 2013 Canadian propaganda news.

I'm a narrative painter formerly employing landscape metaphor as a point of visual departure in abstracts. Recently I have begun to work more figuratively and with text to build accessible storylines through collage with the belief that all viewers can connect with the figure relationships. These collages serve as the laboratory for oil paintings. My subject is contemporary city life and I draw reference from street life, both contemporary and past era artists, and the evolving social construct. I work from Toronto Canada exhibiting across Canada. Artwork resides in collections in the U.S. Canada, the UK and Germany. www.riverlewis.com/ www.twitter.com/riverlewisart/ www.facebook.com/riverlewisart/ www.pinterest.com/riverlewisart/
