ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Feeling the heat, a watercolour on paper responds to the overwhelming physical and mental challenge of confronting that incredibly hot day that seems to come out of nowwhere. Springtime in Melbourne can bring wide fluctuations of temperature particularly of late and this work was completed during one of those warm spells in the studio. The colours selected describe my feeling of almost claustrophobia as the humidity rises and blankets the air a round me.

I love to experiment in my process of painting, exploring opposites like the spontaneous mark alongside the deliberate, dark colours contrasted with fluorescent pigments, masses of colour juxtaposed with fine ribbons or scribbles of paint. Compositions that offer no clear connection to reality or meaning, rather present explorations of painting compositions that may stimulate memories and create pathways to the imagination.
