Miranda Woollett

About the Artist

Miranda Woollett

New Zealand

Miranda is a graduate of the Wellington Polytechnic Visual Communication Course in New Zealand. After graduating Miranda was a freelance illustrator for many Wellington based Advertising Agencies. She also Illustrated childrens books by well known New Zealand authors Joy Cowley and Margaret Mahy.
Miranda now paints in oils. Her theme is New Zealand birds and Landscape. She endeavours to include messages as well as aesthetics in her paintings. She believes that the surface of a painting is also important in an aesthetic sense.

So here I am painting what is around me and what I love most ...birds landscape and foliage. I am in my paradise but am very aware of our changing climate and our global destruction not only of our environment but also of our thinking and values. Because I live with nature and by the seasons I notice the changes. In my painting I want to first strike the viewer with the overwhelming beauty of what is around us and then to look beyond what we see visually and realise that the most important thing is how we think and our intentions.
