Although I earned an MFA from Chapman University in 2001, I am mainly a self-taught artist. I create what is either: inside my imagination; reflections of the world we live in; or just places I'd like to go. The desire to draw, paint, and sculpt has been with me throughout my life, and the process is what truly gives me passion. I appreciate the opportunity to share my art with others. Every painting has a life of its own, and the difficulty of each creation is knowing when to let go. My rational side will always want to find a way to perfect every creation, but it is truly the chaotic part of me that needs to take over, and find a way to express whatever inhibitions, fears, or emotions that are usually too guarded to come out. It is a challenge to create something that I have a strong connection with, and it is satisfying to know that art has no real solution. As Emil Nolde once said: "Everything which is primeval and elemental captures my imagination." This is most likely why my paintings are they way they are.
