Finally Painting

This painting started out as a cross-hatch of indigo strokes, vertical and horizontal, almost edge to edge. I can't remember what came next, but whatever it was, I scrubbed out with a stiff scrub brush. That's the great thing about Arches paper -- all cotton. You can do anything to it and keep working. I love the feeling of history that remains when it dries, and love to make strokes on that slightly rough and absorbent surface, as if I were making a mark on top of my experiences. Everything was there except the indigo bars, and the painting rested for several months, not complete for me. One admirer at that point was my daughter, which helped be value the painting. Once the bars entered my other work, I imagined them on this one put them in.
