Flatter Painting

This series is an attempt to distill down works without losing the emotion or feeling of an image. To retain where possible the imagery of work, even if it is only sensed through structure. The vertical or horizontal lines of the image are a systematic approach to try and understand the interplay of different colors, and the feelings they evoke. Flatter. Drawing on California pop art of "Hockney's Bigger Splash". Is designed to sum up the same feeling of heat, sun, and swimming pool as respite. Flatter is the stillness of the hot day and the anticipation of the cool water. It is also meant to evoke a 60s California that might have only been an aspiration.
