This painting is inspired by the landscape of County Mayo Ireland.

I’m interested in the solitude and isolation of extreme scenery; trying to capture the mysterious, mercurial nature of light on the land and sea. My passion focuses on big skies and the emotive impact of light on the land. Am fascinated by early morning and last light, striving to capture the exquisite, elusive, vaporous and ephemeral luminosity of it. The absence of any human presence is a deliberate decision, lending a timeless quality to the work, transporting the viewer back to past millennia when our impact on the planet was more benign.

I create texture in the work, using the oil paint, before applying many layers of translucent oil glazes. I often use metallic pigment in the under-layers giving the illusion of light reflecting back as you move around the painting.
.
My main inspiration is the remote landscape of Ireland and the Peak District, both places where I spent my childhood, and the River Thames that I live close to now.

The painting is signed on the back and ready to hang, no frame necessary.
